Same court and same rules, wherever you live
Whether you live in Henderson, Pahrump, Laughlin or the middle of Las Vegas, your Chapter 7 is filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Nevada. The process, the forms and Nevada's exemption laws are the same for everyone.
Every case is also reviewed by a Chapter 7 trustee, and Brian D. Shapiro is one of them. He has served as a Chapter 7 trustee for over 15 years and is currently the longest-serving trustee in Las Vegas. When he represents you, your case is prepared by someone who knows exactly what the trustee will look at. More about Brian.

- The meeting of creditors is held by Zoom, and we attend it with you.
- Appointments outside office hours can be arranged.
What it costs
Most Chapter 7 cases are a $2,500 flat fee with $0 down in attorney fees: nothing before your petition is filed, then $250 a month starting 30 days after filing. The court's $338 filing fee is paid before filing. See every fee.
What we help with
- Chapter 7 bankruptcy: wiping out credit cards, medical bills and personal loans
- Stopping a wage garnishment, and recovering money garnished in the 90 days before filing
- Stopping collection lawsuits filed against you in justice court or district court
- Federal student loan discharge cases, through our Las Vegas Student Loan Attorney practice
We file Chapter 7 cases only, and only in Nevada.
Common questions
Do I have to go to the courthouse?
Usually not. The meeting of creditors is held by Zoom, so you join from home. Most Chapter 7 cases never require you to appear in court in person.
Does it matter which city I live in?
Not for the bankruptcy itself. Wherever you live in Nevada, you file in the same federal bankruptcy court under the same Nevada exemption laws. What matters is where you've lived for the last two years, because that decides which state's exemptions apply.
Can you stop a collection lawsuit against me?
Filing your petition puts the automatic stay in place, which generally stops pending collection lawsuits in any court, including the Henderson, North Las Vegas, Pahrump and Laughlin justice courts.
